Useful Information

Image: Romania transylvania-castle--7494.jpg

  • Local currency: Romanian Lei
  • Language: Romanian, although English is widely spoken
  • Time difference: GMT + 1
  • Visa and passport: Full British and EU passport holders do not require a visa but do require a full British or EU passort with at least six months validity from date of return. If in doubt, and for the most up-to-date information and requirements, please contact the Romanian Embassy or visit http://www.roemb.co.uk/.
Note: Passport holders of Australia, Israel, New Zealand or South Africa DO require a visa prior to travel, and this process can take up to 30 days.

Single supplements:
  • June 3 - July 14 - £10 per night
  • July 15 - September 2 - £20 per night
Infants: £50

Please note:

  • There are approximately 5.5 Romanian Lei (55,000 Romanian Lei to 1 UK pound before re-valuation) to UK£1. The hotel does offer money exchange. We recommend that you change your currency prior to travel
  • Electric current is 220 volts AC. an adaptor is necessary (usually 2 pronged)
  • Romania enjoys warm summers and cold winters. In summer, cool cottons are best and formal wear, including tie and jacket, is not necessary, particularly in the Resort areas, although in cities (such as Bucharest) people tend to make an effort. In evenings, the temperature can drop in the winter and a warm jacket or alike is recommended.

Note: We recommend that you take your own towel for the pool and beach as these are not supplied. Flip-flops or alike are also very useful.

  • Eating out is generally very cheap compared to the UK and terrific value.
  • Duty free facilities are cheap but may be fairly limited at Constanta International Airport. If you do particularly want to be sure of something, ensure you buy it on the aeroplane or at your UK departure airport. Typical duty free costs at the airport: 200 cigarettes approximately £10
  • Hotels in Romania do not generally have tea or coffee facilities in the rooms. Take a travel kettle with you if this is important to you.
  • The way of life in Romania is a little slower than in the UK although the service is generally of a very high standard.
  • Standards generally do vary from country to country and you should not expect them to be the same in Romania as they are in the UK
  • We recommend that you do not drink the tap water, but do drink a minimum of 3 litres of bottled water per day in order to avoid dehydration and sunstroke. You should exercise common sense and use plenty of sun creams for protection from the sunshine. Cold beer and hot sunshine are not a good combination
  • Pools are not attended by lifeguards. Swimming is at your own risk.
  • Swimming pool depths are not always clearly marked so exercise common sense and never dive into the swimming pool
