Faith in Egypt

At the launch of its 2007 brochure, Peltours reaffirmed in faith in Egypt as a top year-round destination by announcing an expanded programme with new hotels, new resorts, new twin centres and new excursions.

Said Darren Panto, sales and marketing director of Peltours, "Egypt is slowly regaining its market share and we predict a return to good load factors in 2007. We have added holidays to the Mediterranean Coast and Jordan, contracted new hotels in Cairo, Taba and Taba Heights and featured some exciting excursions. Agents will be able to offer their clients an early booking discount of up to £200 and we plan to invite over 100 travel trade staff on educational visits this winter."

Highlights of the 2007 programme are two new hotels on the Mediterranean coast with BMI flights to Alexandria from Heathrow. The hotels featured are the Hilton Borg el Arab Resort and the Porto Marina just 90 minutes from Alexandria where prices begin at £499 for a week.

Excursions to Jordan from Taba Heights have proved popular in 2006 and agents have gained valuable commission by pre-booking them for their clients. Key agents suggested that Peltours should "open-up" Jordan and the operator now features a 14 night holiday based in Taba Heights or Taba with 2 nights in Petra at the 5 star Marriott and 3 nights at the 5 star Jordan Valley Marriott Resort & Spa on the Dead Sea. Prices begin at £959.

Offering a wider range of hotels in Taba with the addition of the 4 star all-inclusive Sonesta Beach Resort, the 4 star Sol Y Mar and the 5 star Movenpick Resort. In Taba Heights the 5 star Intercontinental Resort joins Peltours three other top hotels. Prices begin at £359 for a week’s half-board. And in Cairo short- break city visitors will have greater hotel choice with the arrival of the 5 star deluxe Four Seasons First Residence.

Seven Nile cruises continue to form a major part of Peltour’s programme with the top-of-the-range 13 day Egyptian Voyager costing £1,580. Cairo breaks and the 15 day tour taking in the Red Sea, Luxor, a Nile cruise and Cairo continue to appeal to the more experienced visitors.

Scuba diving, golf at Taba Heights on a new 9 hole course and a good range of excursions from all resorts offer clients some interesting diversions.

The 2007 programme has flights direct to Taba from London Gatwick on Saturdays and Mondays on Astraeus with the choice of Premium class upgrade, from Manchester with Astraeus and with British Airways and Egypt Air to Cairo from Heathrow.

Panto confirmed that holidays to Sharm el Sheik had been dropped due to fears about overcapacity. Commenting on the possibilities for agents on "dynamic packaging" he questioned the wisdom in doing so.

"We recently heard about guests who had booked through a homeworker and arrived at an hotel in Egypt with building works. The clients had nobody to turn to, the manager was sub-standard and they were not advised of the problems before travelling. What would happen if the client had been involved in a serious accident ? Has the agent got all the angles covered? Are they protected and can they show the correct documentation that all properties have been regularly inspected and surely their representatives on the ground (they didn't have any) would have advised that the hotel was clearly not suitable for any guests ?"  said Darren Panto.

Darren Panto also warns:

"What if there was an act of terrorism abroad or at home, such as Heathrow's recent preventative incident ? How many people lost the money they had paid for accommodation when their flights from UK were cancelled ? How well prepared is the agent who dynamically-packaged to get their client out of a city or area abroad if necessary in an emergency ? Egypt is not somewhere to be dynamically packaged and you need to be sure you understand the local ways of thinking wherever you go. Book with confidence - book a specialist and ensure your clients get the most from their holiday."
