Holidays to Cagliari

The majestic capital of Sardinia, Cagliari, has seen the rule of many civilizations leaving behind a rich culture and architecture. Located on the southern coast, Cagliari (a ‘castle’ in Sardinian) boasts many historical buildings including the Cathedral of Cagliari and the majestic old part of the city, Castello (a castle). Sitting on the top of a hill overlooking the Gulf of Cagliari, most of Castello’s original walls are still intact and feature two 14th century white limestone towers. Cagliari is easily discovered on foot with regular stops to its delightful cafes or gelaterias. Narrow cobbled streets are lined with shops and boutiques, the best shopping streets are Via Roma, Largo Carlo Felice, Via Manno, Via Garibaldi and Via Alghero. Cagliari’s fish market, Mercato di San Benedetto offers an interesting experience for all senses.

Cagliari is home to one of the largest ports in Europe - and there’s a charming old marina located between the port and the castle. Lined with pizzerias, trattorias and gourmet restaurants, Via Sardinia is probably the best culinary address in Cagliari. On a beautiful sunny day, head to the Poetto Beach which is full of lovely bars and restaurants ideal for brunch or a laid-back lunch.
