Often described as the Pearl of Adriatic with its charming marina, blue Adriatic Sea and historical Old Town, it is no surprise that Dubrovnik is the best-loved Croatian holiday region. Surrounded by beautiful sea and enriched by 13th century renaissance, the Old Town of Dubrovnik, located in the sunny Southern Dalmatia, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to various museums, monuments, palaces and churches. Marble-paved squares, narrow cobble-stepped streets and pretty stone houses are best explored by foot. Watching the stunning sunset over the city walls while sitting in one of Old Town's many cafés tasting famous Rožata and Kotonjata sweet pasties is a must! Although Dubrovnik offers postcard-perfect architecture and scenery, the region offers so much more than just history. Open-air performances are popular, and after a busy day of exploring, the local cuisine will not disappoint. Local seafood dishes are delicious: Try the Ston oysters and mussels, which are considered to be some of the tastiest and finest shellfish in the Adriatic.

Most popular activities are understandably either cultural or water based. The crystal clear South Adriatic Sea creates a wonderful setting for fishing, scuba diving and sailing - and traditionally, the most popular sport is water polo.
