Sharm el Sheikh

At Peltours, we use only fully licensed and authorised airlines for all of our flights. Although most airlines are fairly standard and most rules and regulations apply throughout the airline industry with regard to do’s and don’ts, much of Peltours’ flying is with Monarch Airlines and Thomson Airways.

We are flying with Monarch Airlines from London Gatwick Airport to Taba International on Saturdays. Flights depart from South Terminal.

We are flying with Thomson Airways from Manchester Airport to Taba International on Tuesdays. Flights depart from Terminal 2.

Deep Vein Thrombosis

You may have read recent press coverage about a condition known as Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).

According to a recent enquiry by the House of Lords, there is no medical evidence to suggest that DVT is linked exclusively with air travel. The condition is associated with immobility for long periods of time and therefore individuals seated in cars, buses, theatres and trains are all potentially at risk.

It is recommended that anyone who suffers from blood clotting abnormalities, has a family history of DVT, has suffered a stroke, has undergone recent surgery, or is generally in poor health, consults their doctor for advice before travelling. Your GP will be able to provide you with detailed advice. Women who are pregnant, or have recently had a baby should seek advice from their antenatal team or health visitor.

There are a number of things travellers can do to reduce the likelihood of DVT:

  • It is recommended you avoid alcohol and drink plenty of water throughout the flight.
  • Stand up and stretch your legs occasionally and, when possible, move around the cabin. While seated, rotate your ankles and move your toes.
  • Avoid crossing your legs.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Use a neck pillow and eyeshades. Take warm socks to wear to help you relax.
  • Some doctors recommend taking a low dose of aspirin before flying to thin the blood. Please consult your doctor.
  • If you feel unwell after your trip, or develop swollen, painful legs or breathing difficulties you should seek medical advice as soon as possible.

Expectant Mothers

Expectant Mothers

Generally the airlines are unable to carry pregnant women if they have passed the 34th week of pregnancy by the time of the return flight. If you are 28-34 weeks pregnant, you will need to carry a doctor/midwife certificate confirming that you are fit to fly. This certificate will only be accepted if it is dated not more than 14 days prior to the start of your trip, it states the expected date of delivery of your baby and confirms that you are in good health and they believe that there is no reason why you cannot fly.

Mothers are not permitted to travel for the first 14 days after giving birth and newborn infants are not permitted to travel for the first 7 days after being born. Please contact your airline directly if the baby was born premature. Please note, extra legroom seats may not be available to pregnant women for safety reasons.
